Will black living room floors be having a moment? In a new interiors trend report, B&Q has forecasted black floor tiles as one of the biggest emerging flooring trends for 2020.
Drawing on DIY.com search data, top selling products and insight from in-house experts, the retailer says extravagant and dramatic styles that demand attention are set to dominate next year.
High impact yet affordable, easy-to-install flooring is predicted to be in vogue in 2020, with search terms such as 'luxury' and 'flooring' already soaring online. But out of all the rooms in the house, it's the living room where the focus will be.
With living rooms 'reclaiming its role as the communal heart of the home', according to John Lewis, and with deep and moody shades in the home being an Instagram hit, it's perhaps unsurprising that popularity has soared when it comes to creating bold looks in living spaces that create a sense of drama.
'The popularity of using melodramatic black floor tiles is on the rise, but in quite an unexpected place – namely the living room,' reveals Kirsty Mole, Category Manager for Décor at B&Q, who suggests using the GoodHome Jazy Slate Tile click flooring for a quick and convenient way to achieve luxury floors.
GoodHome at B&Q
'At B&Q, we're seeing a surge in the popularity of black tiles with searches on diy.com on the rise and Google trends data showing that searches for "black tiling" are at the highest they've been all year,' explains Stephen Murtagh, Category Planner for Tiling Indoor & Outdoor at B&Q.
'Alongside its striking appearance, black tiling's practicality can explain why moody dark shades are increasingly being utilised in busy areas such as the living room. It's one design feature firmly on my list of trends to watch for in 2020.'
